Microsoft Word-Password Protected Document

Microsft Word 2003 also has the ability to assist you in protecting your document's security. This post will teach you the steps to protect your document from prying eyes.

Please remember than when password protecting a document, the person who is receiving the document must also have the password or they will not be able to view or modify it.

Microsoft Word Password Protection

  1. Once you have completed your document there are only a few simple steps required to protect it.
  2. First left-click on the "Tools" menu and then select "Options" from the drop down menu.
  3. On the "Options" screen that appears you must left-click on the 'Security' tab to display the window shown below.
  4. Once you have clicked on the 'Security Tab' you must enter a password in the 'Password to Open:' box. Doing this prevents anyone from being able to open the document without the password you assign.
  5. Click on OK once you have chosen a password. The window shown below will appear asking you to verify the password you entered.

Once you have done this save the document as you normally would and forward it as usual.

Facebook adds icons and links to status updates

(Credit: Facebook & CNET)

Facebook is adding a new twist to status updates as of today. Any TV show, movie, or book that users mention in their status update will also contain an icon and link to the Facebook page of whatever's mentioned.

"For example, if you share that you're watching a movie like 'Jurassic Park,' your post will contain the movie icon and a link to the movie's page," Facebook wrote in a blog post today. "'Jurassic Park' will be added to the Movies section on your timeline."

In other words, those TV shows, movies, or books that appear in status updates will also be kept on record in users' timelines. Those people who don't want this log kept on their timeline can tinker with their privacy settings to disable the feature.

It's unclear why Facebook is launching this new feature, but it may have something to do with the social network's revamped News Feed. Last month, Facebook announced it was redesigning its feed with new ways to interact with friends, brands, and people. The most significant change is a switch from navigating stories in only two ways -- "most recent" and "top stories" -- to literally dozens of views of the latest stories.

Facebook will continue to roll out this new link-and-icon feature in the U.S. over the next few weeks. CNET contacted Facebook for more information and we'll update the story when we hear back.

Microsoft IE 10 Browser

SAN FRANCISCO — Microsoft is escalating its efforts to bring the latest version of Internet Explorer to more than 700 million personal computers in an attempt to re-establish the software maker's browser as the best way to surf the Web.

Tuesday's release of Internet Explorer 10 is aimed at PCs running on Windows 7, the most used version of Microsoft Corp.'s flagship operating system for PCs. A preview version of Internet Explorer 10 has been available for Windows 7 machines since mid-November. The final version of Internet Explorer 10 will be automatically sent to all Windows 7 computers set up to get updates.

Internet Explorer 10 is primarily designed for tablet computers and other devices responsive to touch, including a new breed of PCs. Even though relatively few Windows 7 PCs can be controlled with fingers on a display screen, Microsoft is confident Internet Explorer 10 will still have widespread appeal because it loads websites 20 percent faster than its predecessor, said Ryan Gavin, Microsoft's general manager for the browser. Facebook Graph Search & Privacy Settings

Facebook Graph

Facebook has launched its new search option, Graph Search. Graph Search is a new search function within Facebook. It's not yet been officially launched yet, but it is available in Beta. Graph Search differs from existing Facebook search functions because instead of just showing of searched information, it displays a large number of connections between pieces of information. E.g. Facebook graph search option now offers people, places and things as well as provides the relationship between people places and photos. Now you can search on Facebook graph; “my friends who like hotel Taj”, people who work in Mumbai from my Hometown,” Videos I like, Photos my friends like” etc.

By using Graph Search you will be able to look up and get results for anything shared with you on Facebook as well as others will also be able to get the search results you've shared with them.

Would graph search bring positive outcome or negative?
See there are both the possibilities in Graph search, now your public information can be searchable by anyone that the reason why your privacy is bit concerned! E.g. if you are residing in phase II, New Delhi and if any user use graph option to search “People who currently live in Phase II, Delhi”, you will be visible in result!

To maintain your privacy and control the graph search, do the needful as below.

1) Set General Privacy Setting
Facebook - Privacy Setting
  • Go to Privacy Settings the drop-down menu and click on the first Edit link labeled "Who can see your stuff (future posts)?" Select the "Friends" choice.
  • Change setting for "who can look me up?" i.e. who can find you using your e mail or phone. Limit the access to friends only. You can off settings for search engines to display your timeline if you wish.

2) Review and Remove Posts and Tagged Items

Click on the Activity Log adjacent to "Review all your posts and things that you're tagged in." Remove spam tags!

This way you will limit access your stuff to your friends only and unknown people will not be able to find on Graph search as well...

Happy Facebook...
